Current FAQs

Who is Current for? What is it? When is it?

Current is Western Pa UMC's youth retreat (formerly called SPARK). It is for youth in 6-12th grade and their leaders. It is an entire weekend of worship, messages, and fun (we also throw in a whole lot of Jesus too)! It will be held Jan. 24-26, 2025, at the Double Tree in Cranberry Twp.

What is included in the cost of Current?

Your registration cost includes all the programming, evening activities, breakouts, and a shirt! The price also includes breakfast and lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday. We will also have a snack on Friday night that is covered by your registration cost.  *Dinner is on your own on Saturday.

Is there security?

Yes. Our conference's safety team is on site during the entire weekend including nights to ensure every person's safety. Our safety team does walk the hotel at night to make sure everyone is secure.

Do I need money?

The hotel does have a cafe and store if you want to use it. We will also have a vendor hall this year where items may be for sale. Dinner is on your own on Saturday so you may need cash for that. Last year we landed at Buffalo Wild Wings. I would anticipate the same, or like type, restaurant. The amount of cash you bring may depend on how much your child eats!

BREAKOUT ROOMS

Breakout rooms are additional learning sessions separate from the main speaker offered on Saturday afternoon. One of the sessions will be done as a mission project. You will need two other sessions to fill the designated times. These sessions are done in a centralized location and can be done as a group or as an individual. Please read through the available sessions to see where you want to land for that time. You don't need to know where you plan on attending until the starting time of the breakout. The mission session WILL be done as a group and will have a designated time that will be assigned when we arrive.

  • Prayer Through Art

This youth led breakout will help youth connect with God and their faith through art. Prayer and art can work together and help people grow closer to the Creator. This will be led by several YMT members. This is open for both youth and adults.

  • Worship Panel

A youth led learning session of worship, spiritual gifts, and how to use them to lead others to the heart of God. This panel will be led by several of our YMT members and is open to youth and adults.

  • Mental Health

Mental health continues to impact youth and adults alike and many times we do not know how to help one another or where to find help and resources. This breakout will be led by Heather and Kendra Shoffstall. Heather is a youth leader with experience helping youth with mental health struggles. Kendra is a young adult who has discovered her gifts in helping others cope as she graduates soon with a degree in dance therapy. This is for both youth and adults.

  • How To Be A Student Leader

Do you want to step up and lead in your church but aren't sure how? Are you an adult trying to help youth step up? This is the breakout for you! Join other members of YMT for an open dialogue about how to be a leader and how to raise up leaders for the church. This is for both youth and adults (but probably more for youth).

  • Mission Space-Katie Peterson, Director of the Mission Barn

Just like in past years, each group will have an opportunity to serve and put together kits for one of our local agencies.

Fun Rooms
(open in the evenings and free time)

Fun rooms are offered during downtimes, especially in the evening. These are optional and can be used to get a little active, watch for entertainment, or just meet new friends. I will also encourage the students to bring one simple game with them if they choose—something compact that can be shared with the group. You never know if the group may just want to hang out with one another and relax.

  • Super Smash Bros/Mario Kart Tournament

  • Karaoke

  • Sensory Room

  • Gagaball

  • Board Game Room/games with our camp staff
